a couple of good games this weekend. I'd like to catch the Nagoya Grampus v Shimizu S-Pulse game to see Bosnar & Okazaki take on Tanaka & Kennedy.

Hope you watched it. That was an excellent game for any neutral. Huge power struggle which resulted in end-to-end attacks and Bosnar snatched a point for Shimizu right near the death.

I missed the game as I was called in for work :( , it looked a cracker.

V-Varen Nagasaki had a good win over the weekend with a 2-1 win over Sagawa Shiga. Today Sagawa, tomorrow J-2!

It would be good for the Kyuushuu clubs to have another opponent, that's for sure.

Personally - and this is a big ask considering their current spot - I'm gunning for Matsumoto Yamaga to get the bump up. Granted, only reasons I'm supporting Yamaga is because they beat the Reds 2-0 last year in the Emperor's Cup - before they were even JFL - and they have a really cool stadium (looked amazing when it was full of green and red, and they get quite a few people in per game).

It'd be amazing if all four associates got promotion... but not likely. Yamaga can play really well on their day, but their days are few and far between... and they're not exactly lethal in front of goal, either. Nagasaki also need a huge kick up the rear if they're going to do anything.

V-Varen always seem to need a kick up the rear. Each season they have an impressive run which lifts hopes and then the wheels fall off in dramatic style.

They have Zweigen Kanazawa this week which will be an important game.

I saw Josh scored again on the weekend. The poor lad must be getting a sore back from everyone jumping on him for goal celebrations.

I think I'm going to have to take up drug abuse. It'll help kill the pain that Urawa brings me each weekend.
A second consecutive game against 10 men for a whole second half, and another 1-0 loss. Really not acceptable, even for us. It's not like they were even top-grade teams.
Starting to think that Finke needs to suck it up, accept his shortcomings and just leave. If we can't get Buchwald back, perhaps it's time for Fukuda to finally take over. He's had enough time as assistant under about fifty coaches at Urawa, so he should have more than a good understanding of coaching by now, and his love for the club would mean that he won't accept any kind of loss. Frustrating that the board finally decide to give another manager a real chance (first since Buchwald, and the merry-go-round before him was even worse), but this manager turns out to be hopeless.

Could be worse mate, you could be an FC Tokyo supporter. Now there is a big club with supporters on permanent suicide watch.

By the way, V-Varen rattled the back of the net five times on the weekend (a let a couple through in the process). :D

I was at the game this year when FC Tokyo conceded their 1-0 lead to Kashima for a 1-1 draw.
From my perspective, and based on a handful of my friends who support the team, FC Tokyo fans are never too fussed... I suppose as long as they don't get relegated.
I think the most painful game for them in recent history was the final round of the 2008 season, where they were 2-0 up against a relegation-bound JEF and poised for a 2009 ACL berth, then conceded four goals in the last 20 minutes to give up their continental spot and bring JEF out of relegation. Was an absolutely amazing game, but at least two of my friends were inconsolable for a few days after that.

After all, they just won the Suruga Bank Championship in epic fashion. Why would they complain?
(I'll post the highlights of that game when I can.)

The biggest talking point of the weekend, for my money, was the fact that Kashiwa finally lost their first game of the season, 1-0 at home to the basically-folded Tokyo Verdy of all teams.
Kashiwa haven't even updated their website in regards to that result. Needless to say, the Verdy website is covered in fanfare.

Suruga Bank Championship 2010 - FC Tokyo v Liga de Quito highlights
(Spanish commentary)

And a couple of interesting videos:

Yokohama FC 2-0 Fagiano Okayama
- This video is of Kazuyoshi "King Kazu" Miura. Most of you will know him as Sydney FC's Japanese guest player who scored twice at Hindmarsh in his four-game stint.
He's still playing at the ripe age of 43, he came on for one minute this weekend against Okayama, had one shot, and scored one goal. He keeps breaking the record as the J. League's oldest goalscorer.
The video is in Japanese and contains a post-match interview with Kazu.

Kashiwa Reysol 0-1 Tokyo Verdy
- This is the game I mentioned in the earlier post. Kashiwa have played the whole J2 season so far with really good, attacking, attractive football and hadn't lost a game until this weekend. Tokyo Verdy are bankrupt, and has handed over the majority of shares of the club to the federation until the end of the season (and if they don't have a new owner at the start of the new season, that's it).

Third verse, same as the first... and second... and probably fourth against Sendai tonight AT HOME. Better not happen. I might have to book a special flight to Japan just to punch Finke.

Nagoya are running hot at the moment so I wouldn't top myself just yet.

Any feedback as to how Spira went? I saw he had a full '90 however have no idea as to how he fared.

He's been starting and playing the full 90 in every game since he recovered from gastro last month just before the return of the season.

But when you have Tsuboi as your defensive partner, you have to make up for every freaking mistake that baldy makes. Hasn't been easy for him, but he's definitely the best central defender there, so he'll be starting each game for the rest of the season, fitness permitting.

Yeah, he'll be playing in that league in no time.

Or, at least, somewhere in the Middle East.

That's where all the good J. League foreigners end up playing (aside from Hulk).

We seem to be on differing wavelengths today :D I meant the Asian Cup in Qatar.

Isn't he only on a loan deal until the end of this year? It will be interesting to see what his next move will be.

I know that's what you meant about Qatar, I was just having a bit of fun. He's definitely in contention for a spot in the squad; had a pretty rough first half of the season, making some pretty academic mistakes as well, but he's obviously scratched away the rust and is now fairly confident.

His loan deal is 12 months (so essentially until the Emperor's Cup final) with an option to buy, but I can't remember if the agreed fee was mentioned. I'll look that one up.

I must admit, I'm pretty torn about whether we should hold onto him.
I'm desperate for another Tulio/Nene-esque defence (I'd say Tulio/Horinouchi/Tsuboi-esque, ala the Buchwald days, but that would imply that I still want Tsuboi in the team), and while Spira probably fits the Nene mould (though younger and is still learning to an extent), we don't have another Tulio, and there's nobody in Japan that we could get who is even near Tulio (and let's face it, he's not exactly Japanese himself). His AFC spot may be better-utilised by another player.
I mean, if I was a Grampus fan (though I am somewhat half-mast for them on many occasions), I would not complain about Kennedy taking that spot. Hell, he's even getting comfortable with ball to feet in Nagoya. But I'm thinking, in terms of Urawa, that the spot should be used to find an Australian or Korean goalkeeper. DANNY VUKOVIC IS AVAILABLE, VOLKER. SNAP HIM UP FOR NEXT SEASON WHEN SANOU LEAVES.

But I'm just being really picky. I love the guy - he's a really nice bloke and a great player - but I also love my club and sometimes see things a little clouded. He'd absolutely be worth the purchase, if he keeps up and even improves his form.

EDIT: There is an option to buy, but the details aren't public.

I missed the game, but heard it was relatively drab and the result wasn't a surprise.
I must admit, while I like Nagoya (I think Pixy is an absolute genius and the team has former Urawa stars + Kennedy), I was really happy to hear that Masukawa was sent off. I hate that guy after last year's Nagoya v Urawa match. The cheating, diving expletive. To me, he's like the Japanese Kevin Muscat (though he's not exactly dirty, I hold a massive grudge).

Pretty amazing that the midweek games were filled with goals.
